The BIRD Energy program has announced its latest investment of $7.5 million to fund five collaborative clean energy projects between Israel and the United States. This initiative aims to foster innovation across multiple sectors including energy efficiency, hydrogen energy, recycling, and storage technologies.

Approved Projects

The program has approved five groundbreaking projects:

  1. Maritime Hydrogen Solutions: Lucy Borchard Shipping (Tel Aviv) and Newlight Marine Technologies (New York) are developing hydrogen dual fuel systems for marine engines.

  2. Green Ammonia Technology: Nitrofix (Petach Tikva) and 1S1 Energy (Portola Valley) are collaborating on advanced green ammonia solutions.

  3. Building Energy Efficiency: OASIX Energy (Tel Aviv) and EN-POWER GROUP (New York) are creating an innovative heat pump system with dual-thermal energy storage.

  4. Clean Emergency Power: Phinergy (Lod) and New York Power Authority are developing aluminum-air technology to replace traditional emergency generators.

  5. PVC Recycling Innovation: Plasticback (Tel Aviv) and Freepoint Eco-Systems (Stamford) are advancing chemical recycling technologies for PVC waste.

Program Impact

"BIRD Energy fosters innovative projects through partnerships between leading Israeli and U.S. companies in renewable and clean energy," stated Dror Bin, CEO at Israel Innovation Authority. The initiative requires participating projects to contribute at least 50% to project costs and commits partners to repayments upon commercial success.

The program represents a significant step forward in international clean energy collaboration, with the total project value reaching $16 million when including private sector contributions.
